Leaking Roof Repair | Dartford, Kent
Project Overview:
This project in Dartford, Kent involved diagnosing and repairing a persistent roof leak that had begun to affect the internal structure of the property. The existing roof coverings had deteriorated over time, with worn felt, ageing battens, and failing leadwork allowing water to penetrate.
Our team carried out a targeted strip and repair, replacing the failing elements and restoring the roof to a fully watertight condition while maintaining the existing tile appearance where possible.
Project Details:
Roof Strip & Inspection
We carefully removed the affected section of tiles and stripped the roof back to expose the underlying structure. This allowed us to identify the root cause of the leak, including degraded felt and compromised timber battens.
Replacement of Felt & Battens
The old roofing felt was removed and replaced with a new breathable membrane to provide a modern secondary barrier against moisture.
New treated timber battens were installed across the repaired area, ensuring correct spacing and a solid fixing base for the tiles.
Leadwork Renewal
The existing lead flashing around the junctions had failed and was allowing water ingress. We installed new leadwork to create a secure, watertight seal, particularly around the valley and abutment areas where leaks are most common.
Tile Reinstatement
The original roof tiles were carefully reinstalled and blended back into the existing roof to maintain a consistent appearance. Any damaged tiles were replaced to ensure durability and weather resistance.
Structural Repairs to Verge Section
The verge and edge detailing were rebuilt and strengthened where required, improving both the finish and the overall protection of the roofline.
The End Result
The repaired roof is now fully watertight, with modern materials in place to prevent future leaks. The new felt, battens, and leadwork provide long-term reliability, while the reinstated tiles maintain the property’s original look.
This repair not only resolved the immediate issue but also reinforced the most vulnerable areas of the roof, ensuring the home in Dartford remains protected against the elements for years to come.
